The Bedford County Public Service Authority’s District 4 Board Member, Mr. Roger Hessenius, announced his resignation from the Authority Board of Directors effective December 31, 2011. Due to other obligations Mr. Hessenius did not feel he could not serve faithfully on the board any longer.
Mr. Hessenius served on the Authority Board of Directors over a span of 13 years, holding the offices of Vice-Chairman and Chairman and serving on the Authority’s Personnel Committee, Water and Sewer Committee, and Finance Committees. At the time of his resignation, Mr. Hessenius was the longest serving board member on the current board, having begun service on the board at the June 1998 board meeting.
Under the guidance of Mr. Hessenius, the Authority has grown from serving about five thousand customers to more than eight thousand customers and from a staff of twelve employees to a staff of thirty-three employees.
Mr. Hessenius announced his resignation at the end of the Authority’s December Board of Directors meeting. A resolution honoring Mr. Hessenius was read and presented to him by Chairman Jerry Falwell, Jr., as well as a gift thanking Mr. Hessenius for his years of service.
In early 2012, a new District 4 board member will be appointed by the Board of Supervisors to complete Mr. Hessenius’ term through June of 2012.
