The Bedford Regional Water Authority (Authority) has been presented with four awards this spring to celebrate its achievements in several different key areas: financial, business, website, and consumer confidence report.
“The Authority is honored to receive each of these awards individually, but to collectively receive four in a short period of time is very humbling. It makes me incredibly proud of our dedicated staff; it is the great effort by our whole team that allows the Authority to excel to these levels,” said Brian Key, Authority Executive Director.
The first award received is the Certificate for Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The second award the Authority received is from Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) as Business of the Year. This award was received based on the Authority’s continued partnership and for affording CVCC Workforce Solutions the opportunity to support the Authority’s effort towards educating and providing training for its employees. Not only does the Authority utilize the classes CVCC offers regularly but also works closely with their education department to put together new classes specifically built for the needs of the Authority.
The third award was from the Virginia Rural Water Association (VRWA); they recognized the Authority with the Best Website of the Year Award. The Authority updated its website within the past five years to a more customer friendly, engaging website that provides customers relevant information about the Authority and the ability to pay bills.
The fourth and final award was also from the VRWA with the Best Consumer Confidence Report of the Year Award. The Consumer Confidence Report is a water quality report that the Authority is required to distribute each year to its customers; however, the Authority takes this opportunity each year to not only give customers information about their water quality but also to distribute information about the Authority’s past achievements, future plans, and its facilities.
